Ringön is a unique industrial area in Gothenburg where traditional businesses such as shipbuilders and car mechanics are joined by artists, musicians, creative agencies and breweries. The area is characterised by recycling, DIY culture and a lively underground scene with graffiti, rave and alternative concerts. No housing is planned, as the aim is to preserve its character through organic development led by local actors.

This thesis examines how to work with a place where local actors will guide development, while prioritizing sustainability in times of climate crisis.

The work began by surveying reusable materials and possible locations on Ringön as well as interviews with local actors to understand their needs. Based on this, a flexible framework was developed where all proposals are based on local resources. The ideas are presented as simple sketches to provide space for local actors to influence and further develop the projects.

The sketching resulted in prototypes of different scale and focus — from functional solutions to creative experiments with specific materials. This flexible approach allows projects to develop together with the community.
